Gas Line Inspection Information

Beginning January 1, 2020, Local Law 152 requires periodic inspections of gas piping systems in all building, except those in R-3 zoning and 1 – 2 families. These inspections must be conducted by a Licensed Master Plumber (LMP) with a DOB-issued gas work qualification once every 4 years according to the schedule set in 1 RCNY §103-10.

It is the building owner’s responsibility to retain an LMP to perform the inspection. The gas piping inspection will encompass all exposed gas lines and gas meters from the point of entry into the building up to, but not including, individual tenant spaces.

New York City requires all properties located in Community Districts 1, 3, and 10 to perform this mandatory gas inspection before December 31, 2020.
